🔥 The First Unreserved Tournament – Valencia, June 22, 2025

History was made today at Gremio de Dragones in Valencia with the very first tournament ever held in the Unreserved format, a new and nostalgic way to play Magic: The Gathering, built entirely around fully reprintable Old Frame cards.

Ten players gathered to test their decks across four Swiss rounds, bringing a surprisingly diverse metagame. From Fires to Stiflenexus, from Rebels to Reanimator, the event featured both classic archetypes and creative builds, all within a format that draws its card pool from Masques through Scourge, plus 7th Edition. Since these sets contain no Reserved List cards, the format is fully reprintable by design.

The final standings were as follows:

Four players finished with a 3-1 record, all at 9 points:

  • Vedast Sanxis, piloting a classic Fires deck with explosive turn-four potential.
  • José María Toledo, on Stiflenex, combining discard and combo with Parallax Nexus and Stifle.
  • Nico San Juan, smashing through with BR Goblins, showing that aggressive synergy still wins games.
  • Paco Pérez, grinding value with Counter Rebels, searching up answers with Lin Sivvi.

Not far behind were Édgar Badenes on a disruptive Mono Black Discard deck and Jou Baixauli playing the spicy combo brew Draco Blast, both finishing on 6 points.

Other decks included UW Control, Psychatog, False Cure and a brave attempt at Reanimator by Nacho Barrachina, who couldn’t quite get it to click this time.

🌀 What is Unreserved?

Unreserved is a custom format using only cards originally printed in the following Old Frame sets:
