Old Frame

What is Old Frame?

Underground Sea. Illustrated by Rob Alexander.

MTG Old Frame explores Magic’s original era: Alpha through Scourge, before Eighth Edition. It brings together the cards, games and stories associated with the original card frame.

Collect the original era

The collection application covers cards, sealed products and documented accessories originally released before Eighth Edition. Eighth Edition and later products, including modern releases with retro frames, belong to the broader MTG Collecting catalogue.

Your account and personal inventory are shared with MTG Collecting and the other collection sites. Record copies you have received or are waiting for in Inventory. Use Projects to set separate collection goals: Have is calculated automatically from the matching copies in that inventory, including received and incoming copies. One copy can contribute to several projects, and deleting a project keeps your inventory.

Explore the games

Play brings together format guides, decks and tournament reports. Old Frame Vintage uses the full original-era card pool. The format directory also covers narrower pools such as Old School and Premodern. These formats draw on cards first printed no later than Scourge; each format has its own rules, including which reprints may be played.

The league history and results and tournament reports are an archive. The event calendar is no longer maintained, and historical announcements do not indicate open registration or a current programme of events.

Read the stories

The article archive preserves collecting stories, deck discussions and community reports. Older articles retain their original dates and context.
