MTG Old Frame League XXI

Eight players participated in the XXI MTG Old Frame League, which took place between June 3, 2024 and July 21, 2024. After competing in Old Frame Vintage we returned to another of our formats, Old Frame Legacy, previously featured in the XV league.

The players were divided into two groups, following a round-robin system. From each group, a player with a perfect 3-0 record emerged: Raymond Mitchell and Karl Akbari. Both of them are regulars in the league, and, as they usually do, they did not just perform well but brought very beautiful decks.

Finals

The tournament’s final match, played as a best-of-three, was a Canadian Threshold mirror. Raymond’s deck featured three colors: white, blue, and green, with most cards signed by the original artists. Except for the Brainstorms, all cards were foil if a foil version existed for the first printing.

Karl’s deck also had three colors but replaced white with red, possibly giving Raymond a slight edge in the matchup. Karl’s deck included some signed cards and showcased his specialization in Asian cards. Notably, Alpha and Beta dual lands are starting to appear in his decks.

Despite the close games, Karl won the title with a 2-1 victory. This win gives Karl the record for the most league victories, with five first-place finishes, surpassing David Kaplan, who has four wins.
